Legal Stuff
Incorporation
What do we need to become a legal entity?
Jason Kent - Specifically we are a non-charity not-for-profit social club or Community club
Liability Insurance requirements
Ok. Hacklab.to and Think|Haus are both covered as 'social clubs', which is probably adaquate for hacklab.to and currently for Think|Haus as well, because they don't yet have any (dangerous) community tools. I think the model we would most likely want to follow is that of KWartzlab, which has much better liability coverage at much greater expense. KWartzlab and DIYode are both going to have a fairly high community profile.
Hacklab.to was set up with State Farm though Tracey Pether http://www.gigpark.com/businesses/traceypether
There are mixed reviews on how helpful she is.
Think|Haus tried a couple different coverage offers, and opted to go as a social club
Cedric Puddy seems to be the contact for KWartzlab's insurance process.... Unfortunately I missed my opportunity to get down to see their space. I'm waiting to hear back about their process before contacting any brokers. Unless we have a lawyer who can write an truly excellent liability waiver, my current recommendation is to most likely model our insurance after KWartzlab.
The alternative 'club' insurance would exist as a line item but would very likely not cover any accidents we might have.
Membership Liability Waivers
???
Tool library Liability waivers
As discussed at the August 19th meeting; tool usage would be subject to level of training with the tool. (ie: no using the drill press to put perfect holes in your hand)
